FAQs
-
Grief is not limited to bereavement. House of Sam specialises in the full spectrum of loss - including the death of someone loved, but also divorce and relationship endings, diagnosis and changes to health, job loss, infertility, estrangement, and the quieter losses that come with major life transitions. If something that once defined you is gone, that is grief - and it deserves the same care.
-
Yes. House of Sam offers both psychological therapy and coaching, and understanding the difference is important. Psychological therapy is a clinically governed service designed to assess and treat mental health conditions, trauma, and complex emotional difficulties. Coaching, by contrast, is a collaborative, future-focused process that supports personal growth, life transitions, identity development, and meaningful change for individuals who may not require—or prefer—a clinical approach.
If you're unsure which service is right for you, your initial appointment can help determine the best fit based on your goals and circumstances.
If you'd like to learn more before booking, you can read our blog on psychological therapy (learn more) or explore our blog on coaching (learn more). Alternatively, you're welcome to get in touch with our Client Services Team, who will be happy to answer any questions and help you find the most appropriate service. They can be reached via email at: clientservices@houseofsam.org

You don't need to be at a breaking point to benefit from therapy. Many people come to House of Sam carrying losses that feel too small to name, or navigating transitions that don't fit neatly into a diagnosis. If something feels stuck, unprocessed, or quietly heavy - that is enough. House of Sam works with people at all stages of grief and change, not only those in acute distress.
-
No referral is needed to access coaching or to enquire about services. If you are seeking psychological therapy and would like to claim a Medicare rebate, you will need a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) from your GP - however you are welcome to reach out and begin the process before that is in place. A member of the client services team can guide you through what to organise ahead of your first appointment.
-
Session fees vary depending on the appointment type and the clinician you see. If you have a valid Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) from your GP, you may be eligible to receive a Medicare rebate for psychological therapy sessions (currently available for up to 10 individual sessions per calendar year, subject to Medicare eligibility and referral requirements).
Coaching services are not clinical mental health services and are therefore not eligible for Medicare rebates.
If you are unsure which service is right for you or would like to discuss fees and rebates before booking, a member of our Client Services team will be happy to guide you through your options. Client services can be reached via email at: clientservices@houseofsam.org

All sessions at House of Sam are delivered via telehealth, meaning you can access support from wherever you feel most comfortable - at home, during a lunch break, or anywhere with a reliable internet connection. Sessions are conducted via a secure, private video platform. Before your first appointment, you'll receive everything you need to get set up. Many clients find that removing the commute makes it easier to show up consistently.
-
Your first session is a space to be heard without expectation. Time will be taken to understand your story, what has brought you here, and what you are hoping for. There is no pressure to have the right words or a clear goal from the outset. Together, you'll begin to map what support might look like - at a pace that feels right for you.
-
You can book an appointment online at any time by clicking the Book button. If you're a new client, you'll simply need to create an account before selecting your preferred appointment time.
Alternatively, you can get in touch via the contact form or by email. Once your enquiry has been received, a member of our Client Services team will contact you to answer any questions, discuss your needs, and help you find a suitable appointment time.
Whichever option you choose, you'll receive a booking confirmation along with any intake forms and information you'll need before your first appointment.
The process is simple, supportive, and there is no obligation to proceed until you feel ready.
